The PVA is excited about assisting the New Horizons Education Center in the development of future Veterinary Assistants. The PVA donates veterinary supplies and educational materials, and provides employment opportunities for class graduates. Taught by a Licensed Veterinary Technician, the course prepares students to enter the veterinary field with the knowledge and education that cannot be gained in any other high school classroom. PVA members have established a "lending library" that lends models or biological specimens to students, such as dog heart filled with heartworms or a GI tract to illustrate how parasites live. Some students have even been able to witness surgeries firsthand. The PVA is proud to assist in the education of our future veterinary team members. | DISASTER
PREPARATION & RECOVERY The PVA plays a pivotal role in animal disaster preparation and recovery. During disasters, many PVA clinics remain open to take care of pets whose families must evacuate. In the critical days following disasters, the Emergency Clinic is prepared to handle an influx of injured pets and strays. |
WILDLIFE The PVA provides care for sick and injured wildlife. Through the Emergency Veterinary Clinic, the PVA treats wildlife brought in by Virginia's Fish & Game at no charge. The PVA offers similar discounted services to the Animal Services divisions of Hampton, Newport News, York County and Poquoson. |
